"22 Belgian exclaves in the Netherlands containing 7 Dutch counter-enclaves inside them"

The world's most intricate border labyrinth: 22 separate Belgian exclave parcels situated entirely within Dutch territory, with 7 Dutch counter-exclaves located inside the Belgian enclaves. The border runs through cafes, houses, and living rooms, marked on pavements with white crosses.

Historical Genesis & Geopolitics

Originating in a 1198 feudal division between Duke Henry I of Brabant and Lord Godfried II of Breda. The 1843 Treaty of Maastricht left the parcels unmerged because neither country wanted to cede centuries-old property rights.
